How often do we find ourselves wanting something but not putting in the effort to get it?
I want to get healthy. I want to learn a new skill. I want to run my own business.
As we all know, wanting something is not enough. We must put our desires into action, have discipline, and stick to our goal.
We all know this, yet how many of us follow through and accomplish our goal? We let self-doubt and fear get in the way, talking ourselves out of even starting.
This type of discipline has always impressed me about the people in our partner communities. When they want something, they make it happen.
Students like Hector and Omar travel anywhere from 1-25 km by foot, bicycle or bus to attend high school, waking up at 5 am to shower and eat breakfast before starting their journey.
People like Marbely travel over muddy, steep roads to receive medical treatment at the nearest hospital.
People like Ivania walk to a water source and carry heavy buckets of clean water home to protect their family from parasites and ongoing illnesses.
Entrepreneurs like Francisco put in countless hours learning barbering skills so they can supplement their family’s income.
Why? Because they know that opportunities like the ones found through Rainbow Network do not come around every day. Many people have prayed for these opportunities for years, and now they see God answering their prayer through a scholarship or support to start a business. They know this is their one chance to turn their want into a life-changing accomplishment for themselves and their family.
You and I are aware of these conditions, and we know these incredible stories; now the world needs to hear about it. We understand the plight of the people in these rural communities, and the world needs to be inspired by them.
