Building Homes & Resumes

Building Homes and Resumes

Each family that moves into our housing projects actively participates in moving the project forward by assisting with construction of the homes. Their ‘sweat equity’, as we call it, not only empowers families as they build something that will transform their community, but it also helps develop tangible skills.

At the dedication of a recent housing project, we distributed house keys and Bibles to each of the families. For the first time ever, we were also able to award trade certificates to several of the family members who worked on the homes.

Trade class participant receives certificateIn partnership with the local municipality and local trade school, each participant had the chance to attend a few classes on the basics of construction. They had nearly a year’s worth of practice after working side by side with our foreman.

For many men and women, this was the first trade class they had completed. You can imagine the joy on their faces as they made their way to the front of the crowd to accept their hard-earned certificate.

This is a huge accomplishment! In addition to their new home, these individuals also have a new skill to add to their resume, which leads to increased job opportunities.

Our Education Program offers support for several types of trade schools, and we have seen more than 400 adults and high school scholarship students earn certificates over the last year! If you would like to help make more classes like this possible, please give a gift online today.
