Carmen

Carmen is a single mother of four, who lives in the community of Las Delicias. Carmen did not have the opportunity to continue her education past primary school, but she has always been determined to grow and challenge herself.

To provide income for her family, she worked a labor-intensive job in the fields. Her work required the use of a machete, which caused many hand injuries.

Carmen had a dream of starting her own bakery, but she thought it was unattainable due to her lack of financial resources.

She approached Rainbow Network, and we assisted her with enrolling for a bakery course at the local trade school. Our team supported her in the purchase of materials to start her business and provided her with ongoing business training. She saw this distant dream become a reality!

She has increased her income by 62% since starting her bakery! She is now able to provide for her family’s needs, prepare food for members of the community, and feel proud of her efforts as an entrepreneur.

She also recently recruited 20 people to participate in the newest trade school course offered in her community – Piñata Assembly and Crafts. Now each of these participants has a skill that they can use to start their own business!

Carmen is an incredible leader, mother and business owner. She is taking steps every day to change the future of her family and her entire community.
