Victory over Adversity: Reconnecting with Harvin

Reconnecting with Harvin

As a young child, Harvin was diagnosed with a debilitating disease which caused his tendons and ligaments to draw in. Once an energetic boy, running around with his friends, he found himself unable to walk, grab a pencil or crayon, or give his mom a proper hug. Harvin’s disease wiped away all the dreams he and his mother had for his future.

It is times like this that God so perfectly directs us, putting people like Harvin in our path.

Through our Medical Needs program, he had several sponsors that partnered with him in more than 20 surgeries to correct his condition.

While some of his tendons did not respond well to surgery, especially with some of his fingers, many of them did. This gave him the ability to go to school, pick coffee with his mom to support their needs, and help construct his community’s housing project and community center.

Harvin eventually became a teacher, and he secured his dream job of working in his community’s primary school!

We had a chance to connect with Harvin, and he was quick to share just how grateful he is to God, Rainbow Network, and especially his mother. She fought for him like no one else, carrying him to appointments, playing nurse after his surgeries, leading him through stretches and therapy. Most of all- she had hope for him; she was determined to set him up for a life filled with success. Today, Harvin is a leader and he is lifting up everyone around him.

Hear Harvin share his powerful story.

We are grateful for each and every one of you that allows us to walk alongside incredible people like Harvin. He is one of God’s miracle stories!
