I have some very exciting news. A number of us at The Rainbow Network are creating a new Medical Capacity Fund to help provide needed care to people living in poverty in rural Nicaragua. For the past nine years I have travelled to rural Nicaragua and worked alongside Rainbow Network’s dedicated physicians in dirt-floored shacks utilized as clinics. I’ve seen how hard these doctors work, the long hours, the bone-jarring travel, and the pain of having to turn a patient away because of insufficient medical supplies.
Our new fund will give Rainbow Network the ability to hire more doctors. This is a very real need and I ask you to join me in giving so that we can expand our medical team. We need doctors to be in the communities we serve more often than they are now. Our dream is to have a Rainbow doctor see patients in the same village once every week instead of the current inadequate rotation of every 2-3 weeks. This would provide improved continuity of care that is vital for the health of our Rainbow communities.
This fund will also help provide for Rainbow Network’s Special Medical Needs Program. This program gives our doctors the ability to provide life-changing and sometimes life-saving surgeries or other care when no one else can. I remember the biblical story of Lazarus returning from the dead at Christ’s call. Our doctors can’t restore life where it is lost, but, they can send home fathers, mothers, and children who might not otherwise ever return when we give them the resources they need to make their miracles happen.
Today, I ask you to prayerfully consider making a gift to our medical fund. I know not everyone can give at this level, but, we are truly hoping for gifts of $500-$1000. Your gift of any size, though, will be appreciated and put to good use! Together we can save lives and care for those in need. By giving to the fund, your entire gift will be used to provide medical care.
